Well maybe not a bed – but a bedroom?
If any travel agents are reading this, they know what I mean. You get invited on a “fam” trip which is a training type experience trip for travel agents to get to know a hotel/destination/ship.
You sign up – super excited – and then get your confirmation.
Only to find out that you will be paired up with another travel agent. A complete stranger.
Now don’t get me wrong – I have met some very nice girls this way (yes girls with girls and boys with boys) – or I guess at this stage in my life I should say women. Or just go American and say “gals”.
But there is something very intimidating about sharing a room with a stranger. It does help if you all fly in at around the same time and get to meet each other at the introductory meeting.
One of my trips however was with me flying in very late at night and by the time I got to the hotel my room mate (and all the others) was already in bed. So I had to creep in quietly, undress in the dark and sneak into bed.
That wasn’t so bad, actually. It was the morning when I woke up. I lay there under the quilt thinking to myself “Is she awake? Should I stick my head up and introduce myself? Who is going to make the first move.”
Luckily she was very nice and we somehow broke the ice while we brushed our teeth and got furtively dressed for the day. Some other agents have not been so lucky. On one cruise one of the agents reported that her room mate had the habit of soaking her knickers overnight in the basin in the bathroom. Kind of puts you off brushing your teeth in the morning.
Oh boy …. I could write a book. Maybe one day I will

Travel agents get so much fodder to write a book.
Hope you do write one.

Sleeping with Strangers
Love that – thanks for the inspiration Connie!
