Is this becoming too addictive? Too easy? Too attractive. All we hear about these days is AI and how companies are using this and real people are losing their jobs. Even in the travel industry we are hearing how we can put together complex itineraries using AI. Really? Let’s think about this.
How much are you using AI?
I asked AI what to have for breakfast.
It suggested oatmeal with berries.
I asked if I should exercise.
It suggested a 30-minute walk.
I asked if I should text my friend back.
It suggested a polite response.
At this point, I began to wonder: Was I making any decisions at all, or had I become a very slow-moving robot following instructions from a faster robot?
The trouble with depending on AI too much is that it starts innocently. First, it’s spelling corrections. Then it’s dinner recipes. Next thing you know, you’re asking AI whether it’s a good idea to wear a sweater because the cloudy sky “looks suspicious.”
The irony is that AI can save us time, but if we’re not careful, we spend that extra time asking AI what to do with all the time it saved.
Don’t get me wrong. AI is amazing. It can summarize reports, explain complicated topics, and help us find information quickly. But occasionally, it’s healthy to make a decision without consulting a digital oracle.
So today, challenge yourself. Pick a restaurant without asking AI. Choose a movie without reading 47 reviews. Trust your own judgment.
