This article heading really caught my eye – it was in one of my industry magazines, Travel Agent Central, and it really struck a chord with me.
Flying has changed so much – this is an excerpt from the article –
New satellite connectivity from Starlink and similar networks has erased the bandwidth limits that once kept calls off planes, and more than 36 major airlines have now committed to the technology. In April 2026, British Airways became the first major Western carrier to permit voice and video calls on equipped flights, expanding the policy fleetwide weeks later, including on transatlantic service to the United States. Qatar Airways and Emirates already allow calls.
So what does this mean?
It means the person behind you (or in front or right next to you) can have as many telephone conversations as they like and – here’s the important part – THERE IS NO ESCAPE FOR YOU! You are going to have to listen to the whole conversation – well … only one side of the conversation (unless of course the idiot next to you is using speaker phone OMG).
So apparently there is a Quiet Skies Act (doesn’t that sound peaceful??) which is supported by the Global Business Travel Association and they want this to be enforced.
I am fully behind that.
How do you feel about having to sit next to someone for x hours in this situation.
Text man – just text – you have a keyboard on your phone. You have two thumbs (because that’s the way it is done nowadays – with the thumbs – I am still trying to perfect that!).
Over and out!
