Meanderings of a Working Travel Agent

My Watch Said So

We are living in a new age – one where our days, hours and, yes, minutes, are run by our watches.

I speak as an addict – I check my watch every morning to see how many hours I slept. My husband thinks it is hilarious.

Surely, he says, you would know if you woke up after an interrupted night. But there is something deeply satisfying in having your suspicions confirmed.

“There you go! I KNEW I was tossing and turning last night!”

And God Forbid you should go for a walk and not check your steps when you get home – or the map of your route.

And all these apps – there’s a new one out there which takes your blood pressure and the level of stress you are (or are not) under. I almost think they are programmed to come back and say “Oh yes – your stress level is extremely high” so that you will subscribe to the app because it justifies how you feel.

My husband scoffs all this technology and has his 40 year old watch which has a battery update every 5 years or so and has never failed him.

Plus he doesn’t like the idea of some software company on the other side of the world knowing what time he goes to sleep or when he is exercising.

Maybe he is right.

Big Brother is watching us!

  1. I am with your husband on this. My watch is analog with a second hand, no sleep or fitness monitor…and I’m managing ok 🥴
