Global Morning News – South Pacific Islands

Posted on: April 13, 2024

The South Pacific islands is a really interesting place to visit – so which of these islands do you choose?

Tahiti and her islands?

Cook Islands?

Or even Tonga?

Well now you can do them all when you sail on Paul Gauguin cruises. I have been to all the above except for Tonga and this group of islands is the least visited of all.

One of the easternmost countries in the world, nudging the International Date Line, the Kingdom of Tonga was never colonized by Europeans, a distinction it shares with no other South Pacific nation. As a result, today it is the oldest and last remaining Polynesian monarchy, and its culture remains strong, even in the face of modernization.

In addition to being a cultural capital, it is a fantastic place to view a wide array of wildlife, especially in the crystal-clear lagoon, where divers can see to a depth of 130 feet. Species include giant clams, manta rays, sea turtles, spinner dolphins, more than 100 species of colorful tropical fish, and—between July and October—humpback whales.

With four stops at Fijian islands you will really get a taste of the culture of this region.

Then on to the islands of Tonga with a full day to enjoy this very special place.

Next up the Cook island with a stop at one of my favourite of these islands – Aitutaki. This is where you can visit One Foot Island and even get your passport stamped there. That’s what I did. Beautiful lagoons and crystal clear waters!

Then the Queen of them all – Bora Bora island. A whole day to explore. Next day a private island for the day – Paul Gauguin has its own private islet called Motu Mohana and I have been lucky enough to experience this. What a great day we had there. Beach chairs, barbecue, bar set up, kayaks and all the other water toys. Really a highlight.

Then on to Moorea – another favourite of mine – went swimming with the stingrays there. Totally different experience to Grand Cayman. There wasn’t another boat in sight!

Finally Papeete! What a fabulous itinerary. And we have some special savings for you –
