Global Morning News – Ecuador – National Geographic Tour

My agent Anni has just returned from a trip to Ecuador and said it was fantastic.  So I thought I would share some of her experiences and some pricing.

This National Geographic tour takes in hot springs, Amazon and volcanoes – plus so much more.

This tour is an excellent overview of Ecuador.

You get to visit the city of Quito and see the Equator line. You have lunch with a local Andean family that is extremely hospitable, and learn about daily farming life.    You will go to a weaving co-op and see how yarn is spun and colored, and woven into the incredible fabrics, blankets and other goods sold at all of the amazing markets all over the country!

Visit hot springs, hike at the Cotopaxi Volcano National Park (4000m elevation), visit hummingbirds, and spend a couple of days in Baños, the activity center of the country. From here you can white water raft, zipline, paraglide, chase waterfalls, swing over the edge of the mountain, or just go to the excellent spas.

The major highlight of the tour is 2 days in the Amazon region at Itamandi Lodge, where you do nature walks and learn the local’s uses of the plants, a night walk to see some fascinating creepy crawlers (including giant tarantulas!), go to an animal sanctuary, see parrots at a clay lick for their morning feed, and a visit to a local indigenous community to learn about their farming and way of life – and join them in a drink and meal.

You will get to see and do many incredible things you didn’t know existed, and come back knowing you’ve been a traveller and not a tourist!

The only health warning to observe is about altitude – those with heart or lung issues may have difficulties with the extremely high altitude experienced at some times on this itinerary.
