Expedition cruising is all the buzz at the moment. But maybe you are not that adventurous but a bit curious about the difference between a regular cruise and an expedition cruise.
Well now you can experience a traditional itinerary in an expedition cruise vessel and see if you like it.
The Viking Polaris is the latest expedition ship introduced by Viking. So what makes this expedition ship so special.
I love that this itinerary starts in Toronto and travels along the St Lawrence Seaway. A brilliant feat of engineering, the St. Lawrence Seaway comprises a series of locks, canals and channels that allow ships and goods to travel from the Atlantic Ocean up the St. Lawrence River to Lake Superior. Seven locks point the way between Montreal and Lake Ontario, detouring past rapids and several dams. The 44 kms Welland Canal lifts ships over the Niagara Escarpment to Lake Erie, sidestepping Niagara Falls. The Canadian-and American-operated waterway is known locally as “Highway H2O” for the traffic and trade it allows.
You will travel all the way through Quebec with stops in Three Rivers, Quebec City and the Magdalen Islands and you can discover this beautiful region by zodiac guided tour, kayaking or the Special Ops boats.
On to Cape Breton Island with a stop there, then the next stop is Lunenberg, Nova Scotia.
Wow if you really wanted to experience Canadian wilderness, history and natural beauty this is the way to do it.
Then a day at Sea in the Atlantic. This is your chance to sleep all day, attend some lectures or head out to the spa where you can enjoy a steam sauna and a spell in the snow room. (Not something we want to think about right now in Calgary!!)
Or if you are curious about how the world works spend some time in the Science Lab on board. This 380-square-foot wet and dry lab, developed in partnership with the University of Cambridge allows the onboard scientists to conduct meaningful research and encourages guest interaction. And now you can take advantage of pricing that is almost 50% off - here goes –
